  • Where the Nenets Came From and If There Is a Threat of Their Disappearing

    14 September 2018

A number of measures exist in the Yamalsky district to preserve the traditional way of life and the development of nomadic culture, language, traditions and customs. They are trading posts, issuance of inventory items, social benefits. Certainly, the indigenous peoples should be supported, especially, in the case when one representative of the nation has remained. On 9 August we celebrate the International day of indigenous people and reflect on where the Nenets came from and if there is a threat of their disappearing.

  • The Hosts of the North

    30 August 2018

Using nature’s gifts a human being ascends the steps of the civilization. But until he behaves like a careless owner, the environmental situation will continue to deteriorate. The Arctic is a unique but the most vulnerable region of the world. Considerable attention is being paid to its development and problems, but it’s mainly determined by political and economic interests. The real salvation of the Arctic is in the hands of enthusiasts, not indifferent travelers and activists. They are people who consider the North to be their home and glorify the beauty of its nature.

  • Sick of the Arctic: In the Footsteps of Two Captains

    27 August 2018

A team of like-minded scientists covered the Nothern Sea Route in the footsteps of the legendary expedition of Georgy Brusilov on the yacht "Alter Ego" under the Russian flag.

They tried to find keys to many secrets near the northernmost coast of Russia. For example, about the routes of migratory birds.

White snow, bluish ice, grey cliffs. Purity of the north is a beautiful brand. But the global environmental problems have unfortunately reached the high latitudes too. Plastic waste has become a threat unknown before at the 80th parallel north.

To assess degree of plastic pollution of the Franz Josef Land and Novaya Zemlya, to undertake medical research and ornithological observations, to eternalize memory of “Krasin”, to keep searching for “Saint Anna” are serious tasks for a small crew.
